The Mercedes-Benz short hood with flatbed, as miniaturised by WIKING, is the epitome of truck construction in the sixties and seventies. As the successor to the classic long hood, it revolutionised the streetscape with its more compact design, marked by the engine being retracted a little further into the cab. The combination of the robust chassis of the short hood and a low flatbed was one of the most versatile configurations found in construction and transportation at the time. The flat design without high side walls or tarpaulins allowed for fast loading from all sides - ideal for bulky goods such as steel beams, stone slabs, or construction machinery. The low loading area lowered the vehicle’s centre of gravity, enabling the short hood to handle with great stability even at full load.
