The contemporary design of the characteristic purple-red MAN radiator grille with the silver ornamental trim stretching from lettering to frame distinguishes the silver-grey front of the “Pausbacke”, which is complemented in intricate detail by fine ornamental strips. The MAN “Pausbacke” has come to be one of the best-known truck classics of Germany’s post-war period. Its nickname is more commonly known today than its actual model designation. The first generation of MAN’s cab-over-engine trucks owes its affectionate name to its distinctive design. The curves of the front section below the headlamps and the round shape of the driver’s cab reminded the beholder of inflated cheeks.
