Belonging to the group of the most influential mid-size models of the post-war period, the Ford 17M exemplifies the new beginning and growing prosperity of the young Federal Republic of Germany. As part of the Taunus series, it brought modern design, solid technology and an attractive price-performance ratio to the roads of the Federal Republic. Vehicles that went beyond the production models were particularly popular - including the rare convertible versions. While Ford never offered a series-production convertible for the 17M, specialised body manufacturers such as Deutsch or similarly small businesses created customised top-down conversions of the vehicle. These convertibles were no production vehicles, but exclusive custom-made cars for customers with a desire to stand out from the everyday. They combined the reliable technology of the Ford 17M with the special appeal of driving with the top down. The comfort-oriented chassis made longer trips pleasant - an important aspect, given that the convertible was less of a daily driver than a vehicle meant for leisure and representation.
