The name has always been a legend among motorboat enthusiasts. Under the Evinrude brand, outboard motors were produced in the United States under alternate names and then sold worldwide. Born in Norway, founder Ole Evinrude (1877-1934) was an engineer by trade and the company’s early namesake. Hundreds of thousands of engines later came to bear his name. Similarly, the US Chevy, which WIKING miniaturised based on the original produced in the fifties, embodied the successful years of that outboard engine, which won over customers with its blend of performance and speed. WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer had the Chevrolet truck of the 1955/56 series miniaturised and incorporated this model and other reference models of the American originals into the product selection. The Chevrolet held great appeal for the WIKING founder - not least because of its pointed fenders and abundance of engraved ornamental trim, which fit the cliché of an American truck to a T.
