Already introduced a year earlier at the 2006 IAA motor show as a “light Unimog implement carrier” (LUG), the Unimog U 20 started rolling off the production as early as 23 October 2007. It was to become and remain a one-of-a-kind Unimog. The vehicle’s distinctiveness can be attributed to the shortened chassis of the former U 300 on which it was based and on the import cab supported by the chassis, which originated on an Accelo, a distributor truck produced in Brazil. Right from the start of production, the cabs were completely manufactured in Brazil, including the interior fittings, and then delivered to Wörth for assembly. The WIKING model has been demonstrating the authentic character of this universally talented vehicle since it premièred at the 2009 Nuremberg Toy Fair. While seemingly more compact in its 1:87-scale miniaturisation than the previous generation, the prototype of the U 20 has retained its character as a multi-purpose vehicle, serving as a tool carrier befitting every application. Its shorter wheel base makes it more manoeuvrable than any all-wheel lorry. Finally, the compact cab-over-engine driver's cab with its perfect all-around view fits seamlessly into the concept of the vehicle.
