The idea of jumping on the Formula 1 and Formula 2 trend in the sixties was conceived by WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer himself. The real-life brother of the Cooper T45, which was built in 1958 by the Cooper Car Company in a Formula 2 and a Formula 1 version, was to write history as a model replica. WIKING’s reproduction struck a particular cord with a great many young enthusiasts. Back in the day, Cooper built 24 Formula 2 cars of the model T45. At the same time, the compact racing cars formed the backbone of their own company team. In 1959, even Jack Brabham raced with a T45 duo in Formula 2. Similarly, Rob Walker and the British Racing Partnership boosted the performance of their T45 using Borgward engines with Bosch injection, as they had no desire to be outpaced in the racing series. And, last but not least, Stirling Moss even managed to win the French Formula 2 championship with the Rob-Walker-T45. Moreover, the T45 was a common sight on many other racetracks in the Formula 1 circuit.
