The number of its fans is legion to this day - the red Schlüter tractors have all the hallmarks of a legend. Especially when they come draped in all black for a change, just as WIKING is presenting the Schlüter Super 1250 VL now. Even though production at the headquarters in Freising came to an end in 1993 after more than 45,000 units made, the history of the husky Schlüter tractors is not over by a long shot. The model designation of the high-performance “Super” series is easy to decode: The “1250” stood for the 125 hp six-cylinder engine, while the “V” and the “L” signified all-wheel drive and extended version, respectively, the latter being recognizable by the vertical ventilation area of the side hood. These features allowed the Super 1250 VL to tip the scales at an impressive 5.2 tonnes when production started in the summer of 1972. It goes without saying that Schlüter kept updating the vehicle over all these years, before the last Super 1250 VL left the factory in the summer of 1991 and as a “special” version in June of 1993. The model released with the designation “Schlüter Traktomobil” and the associated full-vision driver's cab was well received in agriculture in no time as it allowed for easy entry from the side thanks to the wide doors. Better yet, the new hatchback design also enabled the driver to operate attached agricultural machinery without hindrance. These features made the real-life brother of the WIKING miniature way ahead of its time: The cab was equipped with sliding doors for the first time. The model makers crafted the miniature based on the first cab version of the original, which still had a structure above the hood area.
