The heart of the S 7500 was the legendary, air-cooled Deutz V8 diesel engine. Delivering a displacement of around 10.6 litres, it produced a remarkable170 hp - an impressive performance for the time, qualifying it as the ideal vehicle for heavy road trains and long distances in the growing fleet of Emons. The model designation S" stood for the rear-wheel drive road version, which, unlike the angular all-wheel drive models, were endowed with the iconic, curved round hood. The long distance cab, which always demanded crafting by hand in body construction, was somewhat perceived as luxury for the country roads at the time. This is why the S 7500 was often furnished with the so-called long cab for the journey over long distances. While the standard cabin was rather cramped, the long distance cab offered substantial benefits to the crew. The area behind the seats offered additional space, often equipped with sleeping beds - a relaxing resting spot for the obligatory second driver. At a time when trips often took days, this extra space for the drivers signified a massive gain in comfort as well as a status symbol at the rest stops.Founded in Cologne in 1928 by brothers Willi and Peter Emons, the Emons forwarding company enjoyed a phase of rapid expansion and surging professionalism after World War II. While many companies grappled with the consequences of the destruction caused by the great conflict, Emons laid the foundation for today's global network in the post-war decades. Immediately after the war ended, the company concentrated on reconstructing the logistics infrastructure in the Rhineland. As early as 1948, the first new forwarding facility was built in Cologne and came to serve as a central hub. It took Emons no longer than 1949 to venture beyond the borders of their region and to open their first branch in Nuremberg. In 1953, the company expanded their network massively to southern Germany, opening locations in Stuttgart, Munich, and Freiburg. 1955 witnessed the founding of Emons Transporte GmbH, which was established to manage the vehicle fleet in a targeted manner and to increase the efficiency of the transport routes. During this time, the company operated with trucks such as the Magirus-Deutz S 7500."
