The Borgward Arabella ranks among the last and, at the same time, most ambitious passenger car developments ever undertaken by Bremen’s Borgward Group. Originally conceived under the name Lloyd Arabella, it was presented in 1959 and manufactured in different versions until 1963. The objective pursued with this model was to complement Lloyd’s existing small vehicles with a significantly more adult vehicle in a bid to enter into the lower middle class of the automotive world. The Arabella was a completely new development, boasting a design that bore next to no resemblance to previous Lloyd models. The vehicle was intended to elevate a small car to the level of comfort and the safety features found in higher classes. One particular feature was the newly developed four-cylinder boxer engine with water cooling, which was arranged as a front-wheel drive unit in front of the front axle. This power plant made the Arabella Lloyd’s first and only model with a four-cylinder engine. WIKING unveils the miniaturised version of the Borgward Arabella with an elegant colour combination of a carmine red body paired with a black roof. Regular production ended with the collapse of the Borgward Group in 1961. However, between 1962 and 1963, vehicles were still assembled in small numbers from existing parts and sold as the final Borgward Arabella.
