WIKING had been following the sporty Mercedes-Benz SL coupés from their earliest incarnation. Now, fans can celebrate a reunion with the hardtop version, which frames the black clear varnish finish perfectly to afford the beholder a stunning view of the red interior. It did not take WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer longer than the release of the second series to decide that he wanted to include the soon-to-become legendary Pagoda in the company’s range of model vehicles. He did, however, prefer the convertible, which is why the hardtop version did not make its début as an esteemed classic for many decades. The presentation held at the Geneva International Motor Show in 1963 ushered in an entirely new epoch: Mercedes-Benz substituted two previous models with a new sport car under the in-house moniker W 113. Relegating to the history books the 190 SL and the 300 SL, which arose from the dawn of the Economic Miracle, this new SL generation came factory-equipped not only with the familiar convertible soft top but also with a hard top. This option made it a cinch for the proud owners to turn their vehicle into a stunningly shaped sports coupé.
