They were a rare sight in the fifties and sixties and could only be found in a few large fire brigades in the country: Considered an exception at the time, minibuses such as the O 319 exude an aura of authenticity like the one encapsulated by the WIKING model which the traditional model makers have now miniaturised based on the genuine original. The combination of roof-edge and large-surface glazing turned the Mercedes-Benz O 319 into a highly sought-after minibus in the service of the fire brigade. Engineered with a permissible gross weight of up to 3.9 tonnes, the series was unveiled at the 1955 International Automobile Fair, IAA, laying the foundation for versions that became available as box and flatbed trucks and, in our case, a panorama bus. 1967 saw the last O 319 roll off the conveyor belt in Düsseldorf.
