The Bluna bus was sure to make you crave the fizzy drink! The Büssing D2U used to turn heads wherever it showed up in West Berlin. Unlike today, full-surface designs stretching across buses were not the rule, but the exception - even at the BVG. The towering letters with their luminous Flower Power orange were embedded in a stylised palm tree landscape, testifying to the exotic origin of the orange soda. In all likelihood, the double-decker buses used to pass WIKING’s former Berlin modelling workshops in Lichterfelde dozens of times every day – the D2U left their mark on the years of Germany’s Economic Miracle in West Berlin. This is also why the Bluna bus bears Steglitz on its destination sign. For Berliners, the characteristic double-decker buses with the finely detailed Büssing spider on the front still represent the years of awakening, experienced in the west of the divided city, and reflected in the publicity on the omnipresent buses.
