Container-based logistics and classic US truck

• The Peterbilt festooned in the legendary “PIE” colours
• Container set adds new appeal to logistics theme
• WIKING founder recognised the potential allure early on

WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer always had a knack for discerning trends that break new ground in the real world and scaling them down for the big world of small miniatures. One such discovery was the miniaturised version of the standard container at the end of the 1960s. Peltzer, a passionate maritime enthusiast, was well aware of the opportunities offered by container logistics by land and water and conceived a true-to-prototype line of 20 and 40 ft containers early on. WIKING fans can now add on to this popular collector’s theme! The 1:87-scale container fleet is receiving welcome replenishment with the logistics boxes fashioned after the “Messageries Maritimes”, “Clou“, and “Interpool“ prototypes. The accessory set contains two 20 ft. containers – in standard and open-top versions – plus a typical 40 ft. container. WIKING collectors harbour fond memories for the model chronology, which has revisited this theme time and again. The selection of semi-trailer units with container load became extensive. Equally abundant back then were the orders shipping companies and container logistics companies received from industrial customers. The new accessories set is another product that sprang from the ideas of Fritz Peltzer, who made similar tractor-trailer combinations available as sets from the very beginning.

Colours of “Pacific Intermount. Express”

Complementing the theme is a reunion with a classic US truck that is embarking on the same mission. Even at the first glance, the Peterbilt container semi-trailer announces the freedom of America’s highways. The imposing appearance of the American bonnet tradition in the trucking business makes the Peterbilt so typical of those years. Flaunting the colours of the “Pacific Intermount. Express“, the model is WIKING's miniaturised version of an original that used to haul freight for the US forwarder marked by the large letters “PIE”.
