Large circular garage "VW"

•    Waiting behind the glass doors is a trio of WIKING models
•    First introduced at the 1963 Nuremberg Toy Fair
•    WIKING founder Friedrich Peltzer was fascinated

The one area that was always sure to bring out the creative streak in WIKING founder Friedrich Peltzer was accessories! This never applied more distinctly than it does to the circular garage. WIKING has revamped the largest of all models and is making it available to collectors with a contemporary VW design. The updated model can now be used to showcase stunning WIKING presentations in display cases and part of model displays. While the models of all other garages depict them as they were used in everyday life - from the corrugated sheet metal garage to the swing door version, the circular garage testifies to the inspiration the WIKING head found in the reporting on innovative projects emerging from the burgeoning world of automotive mobility in the years of Germany’s Economic Miracle. The circular garage can accommodate three model trucks - which hide behind two transparent gates that slide to the side.

The 1963 Nuremberg Toy Fair witnessed a ground-breaking innovation

When it was unveiled at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 1963, the circular garage attracted the attention of the dealers in more than one way. No one had ever seen anything like this before or after! The traditional model makers are now reviving the historical moulds to present the model as a “VW garage”. Immediately apparent to those attending the fair, the circular garage of the 1960s was entirely different – in form and function. In the eyes of the WIKING model makers it offered an extra fun factor. About the size of saucer, this accessory seamlessly blends in with the other products in WIKING’s large world of small miniatures. The second, smaller counterpart could be converted into a “pocket box”, an aspect that thrilled the young community of collectors.
