A rare glance into the work of the model makers

A host of hitherto unseen living images, interviews and insights! Made possible by this video about WIKING. Extending over more than six minute, the video presented on the website wiking.de offers an authentic look into the great world of small models. The multitude of associated topics from yesteryear to today has been well-known to the fans of the brand for quite some time. Now, they are granted a remarkable look behind the scenes and the locked doors at WIKING. General Manager Ute Schleisiek candidly divulges the evolution of the products from the original ideal to the finished model. And, she leaves no doubt that the miniaturised version of one of the legendary WIKING models is frequently inspired by ideas devised by collectors.

Insights into elaborate and detailed production

The cinematic sequences manage to impress with their depiction of the division of labour applied in the world of Wiking-Modellbau. Originating at the company's headquarters in Lüdenscheid, the threads of production branch out to the Zlotoryja and Dongguan locations in Poland and China before being rejoined in Lüdenscheid, where the finished models are committed to the central warehouse. From there, the WIKING models are dispatched to dealers in all corners of the world. The video about WIKING gives the viewer a good idea of how sophisticated and painstaking the production of each and every model truly is. And, the experts among the WIKING fans can, of course, also look forward to a peek into the old mould store, which is used to store the historic steel until a mould can be revitalised for the resurrection of a legendary model with a present-day aura. Serving as managing director for decades now, Volker Sieper reminisces about the time 35 years ago when the company managed to translate the legendary aura of the WIKING models into the future.

Model manufacturing remains a meticulous handcraft

The fact that model production is still very much a manual craft marked by extensive attention to detail is clearly communicated to the viewer when given the chance to witness production at the headquarters in Lüdenscheid and the Polish facility in Zlotoryja. The daily involvement of all WIKING employees in the preservation and expansion of the company's precious oeuvre is also showcased by Anja Sieper, who is in charge of the SIKU//WIKING Model World and recounts her own impressions. The Model World is also the place where everyone can convince themselves of the unique brand tradition and the wealth of variety the company’s range of models has to offer.
