The book on the brand documents the history of WIKING up to the present day

For decades, the motto “WIKING - Produced by experts for experts“ inspired generations of enthusiastic model collectors. During the 1930s, the workshops in Berlin created model ships, aeroplanes and, of course, from 1949 their most successful models - “WIKING automotive vehicles“. The book opens up the archives of the model-makers at WIKING for the first time, talks to people who were there and tells how things really were. The eventful early years and the entrepreneurial commitment of founder Friedrich Peltzer are put under the spotlight along with the consistent continuation of the brand tradition by the Sieper Group. The unique documentation and reproductions of the famous illustrated price lists and newsletters provide a comprehensive overview of the entire back catalogue of WIKING models.

Standard work reflects the history of the brand
Anyone who listens to the stories of WIKING enthusiasts will invariably get the impression that these people regard models as part of their lives. Impressions, experiences, delight and encounters. Today, WIKING is regarded as a legend in model-making that has quite simply succeeded in bringing history and life together. Reality and the world of models are combined with fascination in miniature. The author lets numerous witnesses have their say and confirm the authenticity of WIKING’s history.

“WIKING automotive vehicles“ have left their mark and are synonymous with the 1:87 scale
In fact, the illustrious history of German toys from the last century to the present day would have been missing a chapter without the impetus provided by the model-making workshops at WIKING. During the 1930s, it was model ships in 1:1250 which were the real success story, followed soon after by model aeroplanes in 1:200. And since 1948, “WIKING automotive vehicles“ have really left their mark and have become synonymous with the current 1:87 scale. Through the decades, WIKING has continued to be the inspiration for lifelong development – characterised by constant dynamism and continuity. The delightful yet robust toy cars to fit in a trouser pocket have long since become perfect replica models of the vehicles on which they are based.
