The Mercedes-Benz 250 T of the W123 series ushered in a new era for passenger cars. When the Stuttgart-based company presented the Model T" – with the “T” standing for Tourism and Transport – at the IAA in 1977, they did not reinvent the station wagon, but they elevated it from the craftsmen's corner all the way to the Mount Olympus of premium vehicles. Before the W123 arrived on the scene, station wagons were deemed purely commercial vehicles – before Mercedes made them socially acceptable and turned them into objects of desire. Consequently, WIKING head Fritz Peltzer demonstrated the right instinct when he miniaturised the new series two years after its launch. The heart that beat under the bonnet of the 250 T was one of a kind: the six-cylinder carburettor engine with a displacement of 2.5 litres. In the facelifted version, the engine produced 140 hp. While considered thirsty compared to its four-cylinder siblings, the silky-smooth six-cylinder offered genuine luxury when it came to sound and smoothness. The combination of a high-end power plant and enormous utility value made the car the ideal companion for demanding families and recreational athletes of the late seventies and early eighties. The interior stood out with high-quality materials and a genuine stroke of genius: an optional, foldable bench seat in the cargo area, which turned the five-door into a seven-seater"
