The typical three stripes of BMW Motorsport cover the BMW Isetta like a brand flag – a tribute to the legendary “smooch ball”. WIKING has created a miniature version of the unconventional original, which certainly deserves to début as a 1:87-scale miniaturisation. Considered unique to this day, the Isetta is also inseparably linked to the more than 75-year history of the Federal Republic of Germany. The BMW Isetta owes this singular status to the fact that it epitomised the onset of the automotive upswing during the Economic Miracle years, which earned Isetta drivers admiring looks wherever they went. Back then, nobody was bothered by the fact that the steering wheel was tilted to the side in concert with the front door – what mattered was that this early BMW provided the desired mobility. In Italy, Renzo Rivolta, the head of the motorcycle manufacturer Iso Rivolta, had designed a scooter that opened like a refrigerator as early as 1954: With the Iso Isetta, he went one step further and attached the steering wheel to the door so that both swung outward when the door opened. The first offered enough space to accommodate two passengers. BMW manufactured the Isetta under license and introduced technical modifications. One contribution was the one-cylinder engine that BMW took from their range of motor cycles.
