Throwback to a long-forgotten age of motor traffic

  • Pullman box semi-trailer with an attractive design
  • Magirus round hood is hauling cable drums
  • Unimog combination handles jobs in the yard

You can practically hear the diesel roaring under the seats of the Mercedes-Pullman when you first lay eye on the box semi-trailer unit shaped in WIKING moulds. Pure authenticity of Germany Economic Miracle era! Back then, the lorries operating in the fleet of the Freyaldenhoven forwarding company in Düren earned a reputation of solid dependability - laurels that now belong to the models made by WIKING. The fascination held by this contemporary haulage company theme is not least due to the fact that it documents the unusual variety of paintwork flaunted by the forwarders of the Economic Miracle period.

Characteristic paintwork with red letters and shadowing

And, what do you know: The specialists are by themselves! The MAN Pausbacke, a common sight on Berlin’s streets, and the Magirus S 7500, loaded with cable drums, had already been there. They were later joined by the Unimog U 411, decked in the colours of the Freyaldenhoven haulage company. The distinctive contemporary design of this series with its extraordinary colour combination makes this line of models dedicated to the theme of forwarding companies hugely appealing. Better yet, the rough-and-tumble Unimog already brings with it the trailer for the shunting operations. WIKING had already managed to bring two lorry sizes together when crafting models of the Magirus S 7500: On the one hand, the legendary round hood with its long distance cab and, on the other hand, another peer of the period: the lorry operating for Freyaldenhoven forwarder with its striking design.  WIKING’s efforts resulted in yet another gorgeous classic, now headed to the construction site as a stand-alone lorry hauling cable drums. One feature that is hard to take your eyes off is the black-and-blue body design with its light blue bumpers and fenders which are juxtaposed with the red company lettering with light shadows. This is what the lorry paintwork of the two decades after the war looked like!

Nostalgia galore with Pullman semi-box trailer and MAN “Pausbacke”

The “Pausbacke” has been given a contemporary facelift, too! The distinctive design of the Freyaldenhoven forwarding company was reserved for the MAN cab-over-engine modelled after types 10.210 F and 10.212 F, which substituted the previous bonnet truck generation in the fleet of the then flourishing forwarder. Hauling freight for “Internationaler Kraftverkehr Freyaldenhoven”, the real-life originals once handled all long-distance traffic. Operating as a typical box tractor-trailer with an Ackerman semi-trailer, the Mercedes-Benz Pullman now demonstrates with its authentic design just how great the desire in the 1950s was to stand out with a custom fleet design. The result is another classic crafted from a highly regarded prototype that served in the fleet of forwarder Freyaldenhoven and earned an outstanding reputation not only during regular trips in Germany but also during transports calling for extraordinary capabilities.
