International Toy Fair 2012 live! Part 1/4
2012-02-01
Celebrating 75 years of model building, this year WIKING continues its fast track to new models with superb upgrading of its range. During 2012, expect another phase of high-speed investment that adds an inspirational note to the new programme. But WIKING also forges ahead with high quality upgrading of its historic models and refreshing new styling looks. So all fans of the 1:87 series can still anticipate contemporary, design-oriented themed editions that seamlessly integrate into WIKING’s chronology.
The biggest surprise: the “Pausbacke” model will be updated!
By popular request of many collectors, the “Pausbacke” will make a comeback in 2012! Thanks to its high tech model construction, WIKING can resurrect the original styling. The result is this ultra attractive, contemporary MAN model. The model builders once reworked the truck shape, which soon looked out of date, to create a ‘retro’ look. In true WIKING tradition, now the clock has literally been turned back. In the classic agricultural machinery sector, WIKING emanates the originals: the Lanz-Bulldog will feature a driver’s roof for even more contemporary design appeal. This WIKING model is almost four decades old. Former director Friedrich Peltzer allowed this model to premiere in 1973, and it’s still a classic series today. Late completion was worthwhile.
Surprise youngtimers – Audi 50 and VW Polo, same construction type
Then, an acclaimed ‘youngtimer’ joins the WIKING programme. Originally the Audi 50, it stayed around as the first VW Polo to appeal to fans of ‘super minis’. In 2012, WIKING closes the gap here: the Audi 50 was once produced after 21 months under development between 1974 and 1978. Its VW counterpart rolled off the production line from 1975 to 1981. From the outset, the Polo was more a ‘budget version’ of the Audi 50, finally positioned as a typical ‘minimal car’ from the 1970s, to compete with the then rather dated VW beetle. Although obviously smaller, this vehicle already combined the virtues of the Golf I as a nimble compact car – an everyday vehicle back then. WIKING is basing its model on the later editions.
Part 2 of the 2012 new models launch will follow shortly. Don't miss!
